In a class of its own.
Set in busy inner-city Highgate, this new addition to Highgate Primary School was designed to engage with the community rather than follow the standard practice of separation and fencing. This change has created a unique link between the neighbourhood and school.
Built recently for The Department of Education, architects Iredale Pedersen Hook consulted widely with teachers, parents and residents to ensure full community support for the design.
Three Midland Brick reds were expertly laid to harmonise with the existing brickwork. And the bricklayer's skills created almost three-dimensional patterns for children to discover their own shapes and outlines.
