Curtin Creative Quarter: Revitalising Campus Life Through Smart Design

2 mins read

The Curtin Creative Quarter, located within the Curtin University Bentley campus, has undergone a vibrant transformation turning a previously underutilised area into a dynamic hub for creativity, community, and campus life.

The redevelopment introduces a series of thoughtfully designed spaces and amenities that bring new energy to the southern end of the campus. Set beneath a canopy of mature pine trees, the quarter now offers communal seating areas, a multi-use games court with a basketball tree, timber deck zones with beanbags, and an outdoor gallery housed in a converted shipping container.

A standout feature of the upgrade is the new state-of-the-art cycle hub, designed in collaboration with Coniglio Ainsworth Architects. This modern facility includes secure storage for up to 200 bicycles, end-of-trip amenities, and a roof deck and garden, which is accessible via a gently sloped lawn embankment blending functionality with green, open space.

Other key improvements include:

  • New paving throughout the precinct, improving access and circulation
  • A weatherproof canopy offering shade and shelter year-round
  • Opportunities for activation through food trucks, outdoor events, and casual gatherings

The Creative Quarter now serves as a model for how strategic design interventions can enrich university environments fostering connection, wellbeing, and creativity in equal measure.
