Empowering Youth Through Culture, Sport and Community: Our Partnership with Binar Futures
Midland Brick has formed a meaningful and inspiring community partnership with Binar Futures, an organisation dedicated to empowering Aboriginal youth through sports, culture, leadership, and personal development. Since 2023, this collaboration has been driven by shared values of community, family, and a deep connection to country, working together to create a brighter future for young people in the Midland area, the wider City of Swan, and across Western Australia.
Founded by Adam Desmond in 2011, Binar Futures began as a basketball team for six Aboriginal youths and has grown into an award-winning organisation involving over 1,800 young people. In 2022, Binar Futures received the NAIDOC Program of the Year award for its outstanding work in fostering youth leadership, cultural engagement, and sportsmanship.
Midland Brick supports Binar’s mission to empower youth, especially within Aboriginal communities. With Binar’s headquarters located in Midland, the organisation is uniquely positioned to make a lasting impact across the Perth metropolitan area and regional WA. This partnership reflects Midland Brick’s ongoing commitment to the communities where we live and work.
In 2024, Midland Brick began supporting the Binar Futures Junior Domestic Basketball Competition, an Aboriginal-led initiative that brought together 55 teams and over 350 players. Hosted at the newly reopened Swan Active Midland, the competition marks a significant milestone for youth engagement and community connection in the region.
Midland Brick remains committed to working alongside Binar Futures to provide Aboriginal youth with opportunities for growth, leadership, and cultural connection. This partnership is helping build a stronger, more inclusive community—one where young people are empowered to thrive.
