Curtin University’s New Technologies Building: A Showcase of Geometric Brick Design

1 min read

Designed and built in 1993, the New Technologies Building at Curtin University remains one of the most visually distinctive buildings on campus and Midland Brick is proud to have played a central role in bringing its bold architectural vision to life.

Located in the heart of the university’s Bentley campus, the building was designed by Phillip Cox Etherington Coulter & Jones and constructed by Fletcher Construction. From the outset, the brief was ambitious: to reflect innovation, creativity and modern engineering values that align closely with the building’s academic purpose.

The standout feature is the striking geometric façade, created using multi-layered coloured brickwork and large open forms. Many of the bricks were custom-made by Midland Brick, with smooth face finishes and unique geometric angles a true testament to the skill and precision of our brickmakers.

Three decades on, the New Technologies Building still captures attention — a lasting symbol of architectural flair, craftsmanship and local innovation.
